Learn how to avoid the common mistakes of bicycle maintenance!(2)

Today we continue to discuss how to avoid the wrong maintenance method of the bicycle.

5. Install the tire with a tire lever

Sometimes certain tire combinations can be installed too tightly. But the magic is that it may blow out because it is too inflated or full without your knowledge, sometimes it is rainy, sometimes it is cold, or even when you ride somewhere in the middle, it blows tire.

You might be tempted to use a tire lever (or think, God help me, I’ll just use a spoon) to get the bead into place on the tire, but please don’t. Instead, you can try it out, fit the bead into the groove in the middle of the tire, and adjust its position slowly by hand instead of brute force.

For those new new tires, if you try to use the tire lever to deal with the puncture problem, it will probably only make you feel very frustrated in the process of fiddling, want to swear, or even in the end, you can only rely on one punch An embarrassing call to a friend/companion/relative to have them take you for a ride (to the car shop) in a small car to solve the problem.

6. Installing an inappropriate flywheel on the bike

Some people are naive to think that upgrading their gear is as simple as adding a few more sprockets to the cassette. Others just bought a 10-speed cassette and put it on a 9-speed bike, and as you can imagine, they can only complain there.

It’s a no-brainer to have multiple sprockets on a cassette that isn’t compatible with your shifting system. What is the speed of your transmission and what is the speed change function? These are all preset and each gear change is matched with a corresponding transmission wire. These are not just a few more or less chains installed by you. The gear teeth can be changed as they are not compatible.

You can’t put an 11-speed cassette on a 10-speed variable speed drive system (and naively thought that would work) and vice versa.

If you want to change your bike from a 9-speed to a 10-speed or a 10-speed to an 11-speed, you’ll need to replace the rear derailleur, cassette, and rear derailleur, chain, and crankset. Don’t assume there are shortcuts, because there aren’t any.

Note that replacing the worn out flywheel with a brand new one (same number of teeth as the original sprocket) also means that you have to replace the chain and chainring, so as to ensure the quality of shifting, otherwise all shifting drive systems may fail. Wear due to misfit.

7. The quick release lever on the brake is not closed

Of course, every now and then at a race we see people with their brakes not installed. Some of them (those pros) actually have the brake quick release lever “on”, oh my god, that’s unbelievable!

The brake quick release lever is in the “off” position – this is the correct position for the quick release lever to hold while riding. This is to leave a little space between the brake pads so the wheel can be removed. If your brakes are too tight or too loose, then you need to clamp or loosen the cable on the top of the brake pads.
