Product Description
A hex wrench is made from a single piece of hard steel hex bar with a blunt end that fits snugly into a similarly shaped screw socket for adjusting screws and bolts with an internal wrench Allen drive. The rod is bent to 90º, forming two arms of unequal length, similar to an “L”. The tool is usually held and twisted by its long arm, which produces relatively large torque at the tip of the short arm; it can also be held by its short arm to access screws in hard-to-reach places and turn faster at the expense of torque screw, so the user can change the range or torque by simply reversing the end used. The safety hex key has a groove to fit it onto the pin of the safety screw.
Hex keys are marked with socket dimensions and are manufactured to tight tolerances. As such, they are often sold in kits that include various sizes. Key length generally increases with size, but not necessarily proportionally.
A variation of this design inserts the short end into a lateral handle, which may contain multiple keys of different sizes, that fold into the handle when not in use.
