1. Remove the rear wheel: move the chain to the smallest flywheel and release the quick release lever to remove the rear wheel. Then you need a freewheel wrench and a freewheel cover tool.
2. Removing the flywheel cover: Fix the flywheel wrench around the larger flywheel, insert the flywheel cover tool, and remove the flywheel cover counterclockwise.
3. Removing the old flywheel: After unscrewing the lock ring, pull the flywheel out piece by piece or as a whole. If you want to keep the old flywheel, it is a good way to string them together with a cable tie.
4. Install a new flywheel: Install the flywheels in order from large to small to ensure the correct order of the flywheel pieces and ensure that the gap between each flywheel is the same. It is worth noting that the front and back of the flywheel should not be installed backwards. Generally, the number of teeth will be engraved on the outer side of the flywheel, and the size of the card slot should also be paid attention to, otherwise the flywheel will not be inserted correctly.
5. Put on the lock ring: fix the lock ring on the outermost side of the flywheel. Tighten it in place by hand initially, then further use the flywheel cover wrench to hold it in place. If you find that the flywheel cover is difficult to fit or the threads under the flywheel cover are too short, make sure the freewheel body length is correct. In the same way, if the flywheel cannot be fixed after the flywheel cover is tightened, also check whether the specifications of the freewheel body are the same as that of the flywheel.
6. Tighten the flywheel: You do not need a flywheel wrench when locking the flywheel cover. When the flywheel is tightened clockwise, the jack of the freewheel body can provide enough resistance. Remember, don’t over-tighten the flywheel cover, because one day you’ll want to take it off.
